Fairy Castle Cactus

Cereus tetragonus is an easy to care for cactus. Place in a sunny spot and do not over water. It will not survive the frost so bring it indoors. The container was repurposed from a French style yogurt glass* and drilled for proper drainage. The soil is my own cactus/succulent mix.

* This glass is also good for saving food, even in the freezer, with a silicon lid. The size is just right for 1 person, and reheats well in the microwave.

Graptosedum Francesco Baldi

Graptosedum Francesco Baldi is an easy to care for sedum and needs only infrequent watering,

The glass container had been upcycled from a soda bottle and drilled for proper drainage. The soil was my experimental mix of garden mulch, vermiculite, expanded shale or cat litter.

Okra

These landrace okra seeds were harvested in 2022. They were at least 5th generations seeds since the original store bought package.  They grow well in the Houston Black Clay soil of my backyard.

Plant them an inch deep. Since they can get quite big, space them at least a few feet apart. Group them together for easier harvesting.

Dragon fruit

This Dragon Fruit cutting was from a plant grown from a cutting I took from a San Jose visit during this past Spring. It grew quite well in a container. I'm not sure if it's the sweet or sour kind. (Stenocereus or Selenicereus). As it's a cactus, plant it with soil that drains well and do not overwater.

Snake Plant (Dracaena trifasciata)

This plant was a daughter plant split off from the original which was grown for a long time in the living room. Low light and low watering requirements makes it an easy to care for plant.

Dracaena trifasciata is a species of flowering plant in the family Asparagaceae, native to tropical West Africa from Nigeria east to the Congo. It is most commonly known as the snake plant, Saint George's sword, mother-in-law's tongue, and viper's bowstring hemp, among other names.

Warning! this plant is toxic to cats and dogs.

Moringa seeds

The Moringa (Moringa oleifera) is a tropical tree widely touted for it's many nutritional benefits. It also has certain mosquito control uses as larvicide and repellent.

Seeds were bought from the internet and the sprouting rate is very good.  Two were grown in 4 inch pots with potting soil and one directly in my garden (alkaline soil). It grew to more than 10 feet with a  slender trunk:

Planting Instructions here. I provided shade during the brutal over-100 F degrees summer for the containers. I'll be moving the pots indoors for the winter but leaving the tree on the ground after winterizing per this website.

Even if it fails to survive winter, I'll consider it a beautiful accent annual tree. And I had quite a few smoothies from it already.
